ChatGPT Pro and Business now include OpenAI API credits: what you get
By Quotadex Research Desk · Published 2026-10-29 · Last verified 2026-10-31
Eligible ChatGPT Pro subscribers get monthly OpenAI API credits equal to their plan price: $100, $200 or $500. ChatGPT Business workspaces get $20 per paid Standard seat and $100 per paid Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500 a month. Plus doesn't qualify. The credits don't work for Codex with an API key and don't raise your Codex or ChatGPT limits.
How much you get
| Subscription | API credits per monthly billing period |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT Pro ($100 tier) | $100 |
| ChatGPT Pro ($200 tier) | $200 |
| ChatGPT Pro ($500 tier) | $500 |
| Business, per paid Standard seat | $20, pooled for the workspace |
| Business, per paid Premium seat | $100, pooled for the workspace |
| Business workspace cap | $500 total |
| Plus, Go, Free, free trials | Not eligible |
OpenAI's own example: 5 Standard seats and 3 Premium seats give $100 + $300 = $400. Ten Standard and 4 Premium seats add up to $600, so the workspace gets the $500 cap. Business workspaces billed annually get the full year at once, capped at $6,000. Enterprise, Edu and legacy Codex seats aren't eligible.
Who can claim
- The subscription must be paid and active for at least 7 days. Free trials don't count.
- Use the same email for your ChatGPT account and the API account you link.
- You must own both sides: the Pro subscription (or Business workspace) and the receiving API organization. A Business admin role alone isn't enough.
- One subscription or workspace links to one API organization.
You claim it once, from ChatGPT billing settings or API Platform billing. After that, credits arrive automatically at each renewal.
The catches
- Unused credit expires at the end of each billing cycle. It doesn't roll over.
- Your first grant is prorated for the time left in the current billing period.
- Not for Codex with an API key, and it doesn't increase your ChatGPT or signed-in Codex usage limits. For Codex plans, see Codex plans compared.
- Normal API rate limits still apply. When the credits run out, requests fail unless you've bought API credits.
- OpenAI says the benefit may change or be removed later.
What it's good for
The credits cover paid API usage in the linked organization, including Responses and Chat Completions, Agents, Realtime, Images and built-in tools. So if you already pay for Pro, it's free money for side projects and scripts that call the API, but not extra coding-agent time. More current offers: all deals.
